Multiple Disabilities

Definition

The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 defines Multiple Disabilities as having more than one specified disability; for example deaf blindness, a condition in which a person may have a combination of hearing and visual impairments causing severe communication, developmental, and educational problems.

Statistics in India

As per Census 2011, there were 2.1 million persons with multiple disabilities in India. Multiple disability by type of disability per National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) Survey on Disability 2002 below:
