Assistive Solution

The solution-centric mindset in the disability sector has the potential to help scale the factors of empowerment of PwDs.

When we talk about assistive solutions for persons with disabilities (PwDs), we often think of high-tech solutions whereas most the PwDs use many low-tech or even self-invented solutions to break or bypass the barriers to obtain productivity in their day to day lives. PwDs around the world discover and build new solutions that contribute in different ways to promote accessibility and inclusion. The solution-centric mindset in the disability sector has the potential to help scale the factors of empowerment of PwDs.

PwDs and their stakeholders on the grass root level spend more time, effort & energy to solve challenges in diverse situations & contexts. Most innovations are informal and undocumented so the thought of sharing the same does not cross most individuals’ minds. Solving their problems individually discourages many from finding more solutions and this hampers the improvements of the collective. The perceived status quo serves as an additional barrier to find more solutions and reach full potential of the community of PwDs. This ongoing problem can be solved by encouraging people to share their existing solutions which leads to a positive domino effect globally.
